Zack Snyder Takes Shot at Marvel

Much has been made of Marvel and DC’s vastly different tones, particularly with the darker ones from Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan at DC. Nevertheless, Snyder’s take on it is that Batman and Superman are so different because they are more ‘epic’ and will outlast the ‘flavor of the week’ heroes like Ant-Man — at least according to his interview with the Daily Beast on Sept. 10.

“It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making,” he said. “I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is next, Blank-Man?”

“Blankman” is a superhero spoof comedy directed by Mike Binder and starring Damon Wayans.

“The key difference between DC’s Shakespearean superheroes and Marvel’s, he says, is that DC’s are more epic. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that’s appropriate for Batman and Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes.”
