Force Friday UPDATE!

Earlier this month, thousands of people read an article we had written about the upcoming “Force Friday” event. Today, I returned to the stores I had visited earlier to see if there was anything new.

Police presence? Yes.

Ticket system? No.

Item limit? Unknown.

The person I spoke to at my Walmart provided some fascinating details, but wasn’t yet sure how their crowd control would work. He was confident that, unlike the other companies, their line would he indoors (a welcome note to everyone in the southern USA). However, he wasn’t sure if there was going to be an item limit at all. Their system would be first come, first serve and a police presence would be at the store. They are going to have cosplayers as well who will be available for pictures.

However, I visited this store more than five times over the past ten days. Each time I was there, I witnessed some piece of “Force Awakens” merchandise already out and being sold. Tumblers, novels, t-shirts, customers were buying something every time I was there.

I also obtained the following document from the Walmart employee, providing additional details about the TWO events they will have. Details are also provided about the exclusive Topps trading discs and a contest that stores will have with each other.

The store I visited had very enthusiastic staff, but no official documentation from corporate offices about the event. They would have one, double-sided, aisle of merchandise available and would also limit people to one item, per type, per person. They were attempting to get cosplayers for their event, but had little luck at the time I spoke to them. Their event would go “until we sell out or the store opens for everyone else”. They would not have on-site police as they believed the fans “are too laid back” to act out.

This one had the biggest update from our previous article. An un-named Target manager I spoke to revealed that “roughly ten percent” of Target stores in the United States would be open for the midnight release. In fact, he believes his store may be the only one open for the release for at least 100 miles. This store (which still expects 1000 people) will be having a free raffle to give away three monstrously large wookiees. I was told that they would be giving out tickets to those in line and if you didn’t have a ticket “you weren’t getting into the store”. The manager could not confirm that people would be limited to one item per customer, but said “that’s how we usually do it, but we’ll play this one by ear.”

We set up a gallery of pictures on our Facebook page, including prices of some toys (including a Kylo Ren lightsaber for $200) people can expect to get on “Force Friday”.

As before, we STRONGLY recommend that if you have any questions that you contact your local store. They will let you know if they are open and what exclusives they may or may not have.
