A Tale of Two Trailers
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the “Suicide Squad” trailer is actually being viewed more times than the “Batman vs Superman” trailer. So far, on YouTube, this is accurate. At the time of writing, the BvS trailer was viewed 37.6 million times, while Suicide was viewed a whopping 40.5 million times.
The big question on Hollywood’s mind is…why? Suicide Squad features (mostly) unknown characters while Batman vs Superman is bringing together two of the biggest comic book characters in history.
An informal poll taken by “Geeks Speak” shows that fans still prefer to see the Dark Knight take on the Man of Steel, but by a very narrow margin of 53% to 47%.
Comments from respondents include:
Liam Garrison: “I thinks it’s because of the last 10 seconds of the Suicide Squad trailer. Everyone wanted to watch it so they could see Jared Leto’s Joker.”
Mike Burkhart: “Because it is the third trailer (for BvS) and people don’t want to know more yet. SS is the first glimpse into the film.”
Travis Gibson: “Suicide Squad doesn’t have the name recognition of the BvS. This may be driving the curiosity of fans to learn more and they may like what they see. Something new and fresh.”
Sharon Vong: “I admit, I watched it to see Jared Leto as the Joker.”
Does this mean that Batman vs Superman will be a flop? Of course not. But it does remain to be seen if the “same old, same old” is quickly being shown the door while something new and different will rule the day at the theaters.
