San Antonio Missions Host Star Wars Event
On Saturday night, the San Antonio “Missions” baseball team (minor league) hosted a near record crowd to “Star Wars Night”. 7,274 people came out to enjoy a wide variety of activities related to the blockbuster franchise.
Although the home team Missions lost 5-4, there was no shortage of enjoyment in the stadium as fans took pictures with Sith Lords like Naga Sadow, Darth Revan, and even Kylo Ren, the new villain from the upcoming movie “The Force Awakens”. The Jedi were also out in force along with a wookiee and several stormtroopers in full armor. Fans also got to bid on custom “R2D2” jerseys during a silent auction.
“We’re really glad that non-traditional baseball fans could come out to the ballpark and enjoy everything,” said Rich Weimart, Director of Public Relations. The crowd was the second largest of the entire year for the Missions.
After the game, fans stuck around for a fireworks display that featured Jedi and Sith dueling in the outfield. While a repeat of the event in 2016 isn’t guaranteed, there’s no question that this year was a home run for all involved.
